Week 1, Day 4
Happy fourth day of your internship! Things are going to kick in as we announce the summer projects Thursday 6/16!
We are looking forward to helping you get up to speed on the world of concussions in medicine and research while getting to know your fellow interns. You’ll have concussion curriculum every day, and we’ll spend time on remote teamwork and learning more about each other through social activities and group discussions. Toward the end of the week, you’ll get a chance to identify what summer projects you’re most interested in and get a chance to practice your science writing before writing for the newsletter next week.
There are four tasks for today:
Please fill out the Project Interest Form as you’re checking out the Project Description Form and choosing your top 5!

Friday’s (6/17) discussion questions on the 5th Consensus Statement have been posted here! Take a look at them to prepare: S22 5th Consensus Statement Discussion Questions
For tomorrow’s synchronous meeting, make sure to come with 2 truths and 1 lie for our team icebreaker!

Read this abstract and the related article about a new discovery regarding astrocyte cell function in the brain (~30 min)
Neuronal activity drives pathway-specific depolarization of peripheral astrocyte processes
Check out this short videos on brain structure
Insights into Concussion Pathophysiology and Recovery from microRNAs
Read this article as part of reflecting on our discussion yesterday: Toward Complete, Candid, and Unbiased International Consensus Statements on Concussion in Sport (~25-30 min)
Science Writing
Structuring a science story
Telling human interest science stories
Reporting on reports to get great stories
